Maria Bartiromo as a Business Journalist

The career trajectory of Maria Bartiromo as a TV-facing business journalist has been an interesting one. She rose meteorically to become synonymous with CNBC, branding herself the “Money Honey,” (see this Vanity Fair article on her from back in 2008 vanityfair.com/news/2008/11/moneyhoney200811) before flipping to Fox Business News and developing a separate brand and persona there (see foxbusiness.com/shows/mornings-with-maria.html).

Her focus is largely on business though politics never strays far from her diatribes and she’s become a lightning rod to a degree she never allowed herself to be in her old job. Even so, Bartiromo is most assuredly a business journalist seeking happenings and trends in the interrelated worlds of business, economics, high finance and personal finance, following the money wherever it goes (or should go). Bartiromo and her producers put on a wide variety of guests and all of her interviews are geared toward discussion of that which is ultimately good for business, business owners and consumers. For example, she’ll interview Recon Capital Partners to talk about smart 401(k) savings reconcapitalpartners.com/recon-on-fox-business-mornings-with-maria-americans-starting-to-save-more-for-retirement, she’ll have on Barry Beck to investigate the secrets behind his company’s explosive growth youtube.com/watch?v=P4xrQiW2PXQ, she’ll play hardball with USA Volleyball CEO Jamie Davis on the organization’s new deal with Adidas ipzusa.com/news/usa-volleyball-fox-business-mornings-maria.

She’s no longer the Money Honey, if she ever were. Maria Bartiromo is and has always been a deadly serious bona fide business/economics/finance journalist who despite her penchant for grandiosity still delivers a worthy informational product.
